Travelling makes a person more learned and wiser as he/she gets the first-hand experience of things. But since there has been a boom of technology and people’s lives got busier, new travelling concepts have evolved. One of them is solo travelling. Based on this concept, Richa Gupta has written her book, “Skeins”. How one journey can change someone’s experience and perspective to see things is what the book is about. The title may sound a bit confusing to the reader but on closely understanding the meaning of the word (loosely coiled length of yarn or thread) and connecting it to the lives of the characters, it makes absolute sense and by the time the readers finish the book, they agree with it.
The book featuring women of varying ages who get to know each other during their travel experience in itself sounds like an adventure and holds the interest of the reader in the first place. Despite there being a good number of characters, Gupta has written the story in a smooth manner and keeps the readers engaged throughout. Women of all ages, young and old will definitely like to read the novel as there are a variety of characters of varying ages and they will be able to identify themselves with one character or the other. Men would also find the book interesting as the book is also a sort of a study of the natures of different women.
